The first day of training usually involves classroom instruction, not real Muay Thai sparring. But expect to sweat, especially during the warm-up. It’s common for classes to begin with a warm-up of some kind, and a brief stretching normally follows. After stretching and warming up, your instructor will start teaching basic skills and drills.

Preparing For Your First Muay Thai Class

Most Muay Thai classes are held in a variety of spaces depending on what your gym can offer. But that should not matter right now because what’s more important is that you are ready. So here’s how to get yourself ready for your first class.

  • Wear Something Comfortable. On your first Muay Thai lesson, expect to sweat more than usual. Bringing a towel and additional clothing is always encouraged. For women, it is not recommended to wear leggings or joggers unless they are sweat-wicking. Shoes aren’t important either because you won’t be wearing them.
  • Bring Your Water. You’ll sweat so much that you’ll need to drink lots of water to rehydrate. Make sure your water bottle is filled with lukewarm water. You wouldn’t want to do is leave class to refill your water bottle and end up missing valuable training time.
  • Eat A Light Meal. You should eat since you will need all the energy that you have, but avoid overeating before the  The last thing you want is to have an accident during your first Muay Thai class.
